Different ways to start and stop DB Services

Share us

There are many ways to start and stop DB services in SQL Server. Here I am writing down most frequently used in real time by DBA.

  1. Using SQL Server Configuration Manager                                                                                Go to SQL Server Configuration Manager -> Yes->Go to Services->Select the services you want to stop. For DB services we used to stop SQL Server(MSSQLSERVER). It gives a prompt like you also want to stop Agent, we click yes.Config_ManagerConfig_Stop
  2.  Using Windows services

Open services using services.msc. It will look like below screenshot. Type SQL and all services related to SQL will come. We then stop the DB services.

3.    Using Object explorer in SSMS

From GUI also, we can stop and start the DB services.

4.  Using the Net start command

Apart from above mentioned methods, we can also use the                 Net Start command. Just type net start mssqlserver at the                   command prompt. To start a named instance, we have to type            net start MSSQL$instancename. In below screenshot, we have            started default instance.

Netcommand                 To stop the services, we need to write stop in place of start.
